The twister, an EF4 with winds reaching over 170 mph, struck at rush hour and claimed at least 1 dead and dozens injured. The tornado touched down near the Dayton International Airport and traveled northeast for over 15 miles, ripping through residential neighborhoods, schools, and businesses. It was terrifying.” The impact of the tornado was particularly severe in the Dayton View neighborhood, where dozens of homes were destroyed. Many residents were forced to evacuate, and some are still missing. “We’re heartbroken for the people who have lost loved ones and who have seen their homes and businesses destroyed,” said Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley. “We are committed to doing everything we can to help our community recover.” Emergency crews and volunteers have been working around the clock to clear debris, rescue victims, and provide assistance to those affected. The National Guard has also been deployed to assist with the recovery effort. President Donald Trump has declared Dayton a disaster area, making federal aid available to the city. However, it is expected to take months or even years for the community to fully recover from the devastation. “We will get through this together,” said Mayor Whaley. “Dayton is a strong and resilient city, and we will come out of this stronger than ever.”
