Oakland Update: Suspect Arrested in Fatal Shooting near Lake MerrittOakland Update: Suspect Arrested in Fatal Shooting near Lake Merritt Oakland Police Department (OPD) has apprehended a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday evening near Lake Merritt. On March 4, 2023, at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 700 block of Bellevue Avenue. Upon arrival, they located a 22-year-old male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by Oakland Fire Department paramedics, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. He has been identified as Tyrone Jones, a resident of Oakland. Detectives immediately launched an investigation and developed leads that pointed to a suspect who had fled the scene. On Monday, March 6, 2023, after days of diligent work, OPD officers successfully apprehended the suspect in the 1000 block of 14th Street. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Anthony Williams of Alameda, was taken into custody without incident. He has been booked into Santa Rita Jail on charges of homicide.
