Tony Evans, owner of Evans Automotive Repair, witnessed the car crash and immediately sprang into action. The vehicle had flipped over and smoke was billowing from the engine. “I saw the car and heard the screams, and I couldn’t just stand there,” Evans told reporters. Evans ran towards the wreckage and noticed a young boy trapped inside. The flames were rapidly spreading, and Evans knew he had only seconds to act. “I kicked in the passenger window and leaned inside,” Evans said. “The boy was unconscious, and I could feel the heat on my face.” With great effort, Evans unbuckled the boy’s seatbelt and pulled him out of the burning car. He handed the child to a bystander and then used his fire extinguisher to put out the flames. “I’m just glad I was able to help,” Evans said modestly. “Anyone in my position would have done the same thing.” The boy, whose name has not been released, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His family has expressed their gratitude to Evans for saving their child’s life. “Our hearts are so full of emotion right now,” the boy’s mother said. “We can’t thank Mr. Evans enough for what he did.” Evans, who has owned his auto repair shop for over 20 years, said he had never witnessed anything like this before. “It was a scary situation, but I’m just glad it turned out okay,” he said. “It’s a reminder that we should always be prepared to help others in need.” Evans’ heroic actions have been praised by the local community and officials. The mayor of Decatur, Scott Evans, commended Evans for his bravery and quick thinking. “Tony Evans is a true hero,” Mayor Evans said. “His selfless actions saved a young boy’s life, and we are all grateful for his courage.”
