Albuquerque’s ‘Cone Zone Extravaganza’: Road Repairs Ramp UpAlbuquerque’s ‘Cone Zone Extravaganza’: Road Repairs Ramp Up Albuquerque, NM – Mayor Tim Keller has declared a “Cone Zone Extravaganza” in the city as road repairs reach an unprecedented scale. With multiple major construction projects underway simultaneously, motorists are advised to expect significant traffic disruptions. “We know this is going to be challenging for drivers, but these repairs are absolutely necessary to improve the safety and longevity of our roadways,” said Mayor Keller. “We are working diligently to minimize the impact on commuters, but there will be delays.” The most extensive project is the reconstruction of Interstate 25 between Lomas Boulevard and the Big I. The $450 million undertaking will include replacing the dilapidated bridge over Gibson Boulevard and widening the freeway to four lanes in each direction. Work is expected to take three years. Other major road closures include: * Carlisle Boulevard will be closed between Wyoming Boulevard and I-40 for utility upgrades. * Paseo del Norte will be narrowed to two lanes in each direction between Indian School Road and Coors Boulevard for repaving. * Tramway Boulevard will be closed at the intersection of Tramway Boulevard and Edith Boulevard for bridge repairs. The city has implemented a traffic management plan to mitigate the disruptions, including additional signage, alternate routes, and enhanced public transit. However, motorists are urged to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time. In a lighthearted attempt to soften the blow, the city has launched a “Cone Zone Extravaganza” campaign. Residents are encouraged to share photos and videos of the traffic chaos on social media using the hashtag #ConeZoneABQ. The city has also created a website featuring real-time traffic updates and resources for drivers. “We understand that these road closures are frustrating,” said Department of Transportation Director Emily Weisheit. “But we ask for everyone’s patience and cooperation. These repairs will ultimately benefit our entire community by providing safer and more efficient transportation infrastructure.” The “Cone Zone Extravaganza” is expected to continue throughout the summer and into the fall. Motorists are advised to stay informed about traffic updates through the city’s website and social media channels.
